Hallie Rich

Hallie received her B.A. from the University of Michigan. After working in her family business for many years, Hallie is now a flourishing entrepreneur in New York City.

I have always known what an amazing father I have. As a little girl, I idolized him. As a young woman, I respected him. As a business woman, I admired him for his professional genius. However,I had never been more proud of my father, or more in awe of him, than I had been since the day he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought his disease with unbelievable courage, determination, and with absolute dignity.

Each day, I was amazed by his incredibly positive outlook and boundless inner strength. As he was determined to beat the disease, he lived each day not as his last, but as the first day of the rest of his life. He never complained, and was usually more worried about my mother,my sister, and me than he was for himself. This however was not surprising. My father was the most selfless man I have ever known and he was beyond generous, constantly giving of himself to anyone that he could help, advise, guide, or support.

My father always gave the most, however, to his family. His love,compassion,understanding, and kindness have been the best gifts my mother, sister, and I have ever received. From the day of his diagnosis, through the day of his passing, he kept teaching us the meaning of life. While his life was cut short, I still consider myself one of the luckiest girls to have had him as my father and best friend.

While it is too late for my family, tt is the suffering, angst, and heart-wrenching pain that cancer wreaks upon its patients and their families that I want to prevent anyone else from experiencing. I pray for the day when this disease is no longer around. I desire to take an initiative, be proactive, and fight this illness for my father and for every individual who has suffered from this disease. Please help me by joining the fight. Together, we can make a difference.
